    VT's new policy on rule-breaking

    Fall 2006

    Cumulative Point System

    Counts as 1

    * miss class
    * miss study hall
    * miss tutor session
    * miss breakfast
    * teacher reports player is disruptive in class
    * academic support staff reports player is disruptive in study hall

    Counts as .5, Punish when it builds to 1

    * late for class
    * late for study hall
    * late for tutor session
    * no books in class
    * using cell phone or listening to headset in class

    Staff Members Who Will Be Present for Punishment Runs? In This Order: Mike Gentry, Position Coach

    (Note: Off-the-field and non-academic matters will be dealt with individually by Coach Beamer. This may, or may not, apply to what's stated above. The academic advisory staff will have the final word. No discussion. If missing a class is unavoidable, the player must produce excused absence notification from the doctor or professor. No exceptions.)

    Cumulative Point Punishment Offense(s)

    * 1 - Evening running (after practice)
    * 2 - Evening running (after practice), Wednesday 6 am morning running
    * 3 - Evening running (after practice), Sunday 6 am morning running
    * 4 - Evening running, including all players at your position (after practice), Sunday 6 am morning running
    * 5 - Evening running, including all players at your position (after practice), Sunday 6 am morning running, lose complimentary tickets for final game of the year
    * 6 - Evening running, including all players at your position (after practice), Sunday 6 am running, lose complimentary tickets for last two games of the year
    * 7 - Evening running, including all players at your position (after practice), Sunday 6 am am running, lose complimentary tickets for the last four games of the year, suspended for one quarter of the next football game
    * 8 - Evening running (after practice), Sunday 6 am running, evening running with all players in your workout group, lose complimentary tickets to the last six games of the year, suspended for two quarters of the next football game, curfew for the first three nights at the bowl game
    * 9 - Evening running (after practice), Sunday 6 am running, evening running with all players in your workout group, suspended for three quarters of the next football game, curfew for all nights at the bowl game
    * 10 - Evening running (after practice), Sunday 6 am running, evening running with all players in your workout group, suspended for four quarters of the next football game, do not take to the bowl game
    * 11 - Meeting with Coach Beamer

    FINES FOR:

    Improper Equipment For Games
    (visor, shoes, socks, under garments, etc... EVERYONE WILL DRESS THE SAME)

    Fines will be paid out of per diem and travel per diem for the bowl game. Bruce Garnes will enforce our uniform policy and will report those in violation.

    OFFENSE(S)

    * 1st - $100
    * 2nd - $200
    * 3rd - $300
    * 4th - $400
    * 5th - $500
    * 6th - Do not take to bowl game


    UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT or FLAGRANT FOUL

    100 yards running for each yard of foul. Running will occur on Wednesday morning at 6 am with Coach Beamer. Fine will be $100 dollars to be taken out of the per diem and travel per diem for the bowl game.

    that sounds like a great policy, if adhered to.

    I would like to see something along those lines at every school. Ive seen first hand some football players' (or athletes in general) laziness, disruptiveness or general apathy in class. What really bothers me is that they are potentially taking an enrollment spot away from a kid that would have the desire to learn.

    My fav of that list is the one penalizing players for personal fouls.

    I loved VT football and all but you're right, Bray.

    Come on these are supposed to be college people. They need to act like it. Good call for Beamer after that Bowl incident that I admit, VT was acting like the shouldn't have won.

    After the Bowl Game didn't he make that one guy go and apologize to that guy from Louisville?

    I know I'm getting old, but "teacher reports player is disruptive in class"? Is student behavior in class a problem at the university level now? I thought student behavior was something only we in the public schools had to address.

    What about such infractions as stomping an opposing player's hand or giving the middle finger to the opposing team's fans?
